Shannon Docherty, LCSW
I approach therapy from a holistic perspective, appreciating the nuance and mess of everyday life. I believe healing and strength comes from connection—both external and internal. With curiosity and compassion, I will help cultivate and strengthen your connection to your emotions, body, and mind so that you feel centered and supported to take risks and make positive changes.
I received a Master of Social Welfare from UCLA and a Bachelor’s degree in Critical Theory and Social Justice with an emphasis in Queer and Feminist Studies from Occidental College. I have worked and trained at several community mental health clinics in Los Angeles including NCJWLA, Peace over Violence, and Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services. I also have experience facilitating support groups and mindfulness workshops to children and adolescents in school settings. My clinical training has been trauma-informed and has been focused on psychodynamic, relational, and experiential therapy. In addition, I have experience and training in mindfulness and self-compassion.
I am passionate about exploring issues of identity including sexuality and gender and how these interplay with other parts of ourselves including race, culture, class, and religion. I specialize in working with transitions into adulthood, relationship difficulties, and past traumas.
